Probably the best city in Germany.

Karlsruhe.            slug.policy.enhances  (no reference to the speed of our cycling).

Distance.      79km
Total.           604km

Stoked up on our hotel breakfast we cycled in the cold morning air we returned to the Rhein and across a series of locks back onto the French side.  The route took us through a number of small villages which at least made our cycling interesting.  The last French village we passed through was Munchausen.

This made me think of Munchausen Syndrome which is a behaviour where a person inflicts an ailment on themselves (or feigns an illness) in an effort to gain attention.  Here I am seeking attention from Janice by bashing my own face!  It’s strange what people can do!

Also, whilst in Munchausen we munched our lunch by the side of the river.

This was the border with Germany and the last time we stood on French soil on this ride.  It doesn’t look much like a border.

We arrived mid afternoon in Karlsruhe, known as the Fan City as it’s street plan is shaped like a fan, radiating southwards from the Palace Schloß.  The picture below shows the Palace and the city founders statue.  Most of the Palace and much of the city centre had been demolished by allied bombing raids in the Second World War but was totally rebuilt.  It is an open and beautiful public space in the centre of a pleasant city.

The city is so pleasant that many people might say ‘Karlsruhe.....probably the best city in Germany’.

We had a nice modern hotel to stay in on the northern edge of the city.
