An undisturbed nights sleep last night. Total peace and quiet in the woods. Today is a good weather day, I must keep my promise to Janice about the good weather! We had a walk around the forest information centre and discovered that Lynx have been reintroduced to the area....perhaps it was good we didn’t know that last night.
Janice did the first part of the driving, she is sharing more of the driving....I think she also prefers me to navigate. Again, we drove along the route that I have cycled. There is some lovely views. We had a coffee stop, see the photo
I didn’t know Janice had taken the photo of me eating little cakes that are a bit like Jaffa Cakes without the chocolate! I was busy watching a heron in the water.
We got to our overnight stop by lunchtime at the Alsatian village of Hirtzbach....what a great name. I don’t actually have a bad back so we have no excuse to change our cycling plans. The car park we are staying on has fresh water, hose, toilet and grey water emptying with no charge. The small town is very pretty and looks like it should be in Germany.
Lots of timbered houses along a wide street lined with damson trees. We are only about 20 miles from the German and Swiss border. After lunch we cycled into the bigger town of Altkirch which I translate into either Old Church or Old Cherry Liqueur. It lies on the Ill river......you wouldn’t believe it would you, here’s the proof.
By special request here’s my ‘body’ cycling top. Most people think it’s horrible, so I keep wearing it......it’s the best body I’ve got! The altkirch doesn’t seem to old, I believe it’s the third church built on the same site. We had a look in. The church here is very different from the baroque churches we saw earlier at Dole and Besançon. Which just goes to prove the saying, ‘if it ain’t baroque, don’t fix it’!!
For those of you who want a full facial close up of my new appearance here it is......
Big improvement!
