Blowing your own trumpet is no laughing matter!

Bad Säckingen.       buffoon.whiling.telescope

Distance.   44km
Total.        300km

We began after a decent breakfast at 9am in grey mist.  That was a bit of a shock.  We only had a short ride today and thought we would arrive by lunchtime.

Janice made a new friend.  She should know from working in a primary school that she shouldn’t talk to strangers.

We had cycled through Waldshut, which was factually accurate....as it was a Sunday morning and everything was shut.  Sadly, it was rather grey too, just like the time I rode through it on my Eurovelo 6 trip.  We moved swiftly on to Laufenburg which has half a town in Germany and the other half in Switzerland.  The sun came out just as Janice crossed the bridge, so we were laughing!

We climbed up a Swiss Schloß (not an easy thing to say) and enjoyed the views (today’s selfie was taken at the top) and couldn’t help laughing at the street sign.

We were quickly into Bad Säckingen.  A lovely little town.  It is known as the Trumpeters town because of a book in which a poor trumpeter falls in love with the rich lords daughter in Säckingen and despite family objections he became rich and married her.

The wooden bridge is 203 metres long and is the longest covered wooden bridge in Europe.  The church is amazing.  I couldn’t resist a paddle, it was so hot.  I would have gone swimming properly if I had the gear.  We had a lunch at a restaurant in the square opposite the church and had our first schnitzel.

....and what a schnitzel it was, with Swabian knoodles and sauce.  A very large portion (no vegetables). We are staying in a very central apartment that is superb...the downside is that we won’t get a breakfast provided in the morning.  We have just found a morning boat trip offering a ‘Frühstückfahrt’, meaning Breakfast trip.....sounds tempting but Janice doesn’t fancy it.

My new outfit looks a lot like my previous outfit.....isn’t that a surprise and I am normally such a natty dresser....here I am blowing my own trumpet after all!
