Staying at the Caravan and Motorhome Club site at Hythe.
We have spent the weekend visiting Janice’s daughter, son-in-law and most importantly our grandson Oscar. He is a really happy baby and has been a treat to look after (especially as we don’t have to get up in the night with him). Visiting a baby made us check the current popular names for newborns and were flabbergasted to find out that neither Richard or Janice were names in the top 100. Especially as mine is a name of royalty. There are plenty of Jaxsons, Kais and Arlos in the top 100 list, no wonder there are so many problems in the world!
Moving on.....it was time to move on. We have crossed the Dartford Crossing Bridge.....
Janice particularly enjoys taking photos as we cross major bridges. I enjoyed the crossing in the knowledge that we were fully registered online for the toll charge, to the extent that I have prepaid (by mistake) for a lifetime of crossings at the rate of two crossings a year. Our destination today was at the Caravan Club site outside Hythe. It is handy for the Eurotunnel crossing tomorrow morning. As a result of working for the Club last year we have a free sites pass for 2019. So far we have had over £2000 value out of the pass. We wouldn’t normally choose to stay constantly on Club sites - they are well organised sites with good facilities but we find them a bit samey and would prefer to stay at cheaper Certified Locations or even better we enjoy wild-camping. However, if we have a free pass, well, why not give it some stick!
This was our first glass of wine to celebrate starting our journey. Where we will be tomorrow evening is anyone’s guess......isn’t that really exciting. We have till Wednesday 11th September to travel through eastern France to Bad Bellingen, in Germany, north of Basel where we leave the van.
